Happy Independence day Nigerians and happy new month! Through the ups and downs we thank God for keeping us.
Heard someone recite the Nigerian anthem recited 1st October 1960 and thought to share on this beautiful day.
Nigeria we hail thee,
Our own dear native land,
Though tribe and tongue may differ,
In brotherhood we stand,
Nigerians all, and proud to serve
Our sovereign Motherland.
Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign,
In peace or battle honour’d,
And this we count as gain,
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain.
O God of all creation,
Grant this our one request,
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed,
And so with peace and plenty
Nigeria may be blessed.
“Nigeria We Hail Thee”

In use: 1960-1978

Happy 54th independence day, may we truly become independent! 🙂

The current pledge sounds like the writter was in hurry or maybe a gun was to his head by those soldier boys of back then while he was writting….anyway… This one summons the spirit of patriosm and the sense of responsibility… i move for an adoption of the former.
so why did we change it? The present one is still beautiful sha.
Love October, my blogoversary month
