Day 9:Olisa Ezegwu

It’s that time of the year again. Since I came across your call for #31Days31Voices; I’ve struggled with whether to write in or just read from others and be blessed. But for the one person that might be inspired by this, I’m writing and also I’ll be reading to be blessed.

2016 for me has been a good year that came with its lessons. Besides completing internship and writing some exams, I’ve also done some learning.
This year majorly taught me that until you step out and take that first step, you’d never realize the immense support that is out there awaiting you. You don’t have to have it all figured out; start with doing the little within your power and you’d see God send help in the form of words, insights and people.
We can all talk about how fear is an illusion but until we step on those waters and our feet feel like sinking, then God saves us and brings us to the promise, my dear, fear is still your reality.

A while back I came across a quote that seemed to capture this well, “ In every dream journey, there comes a moment when you have to quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death. You have to go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention.”

For me, making that decision to say; “Olisa you’re going after this dream, you’re writing these exams” has been the highlight of my year. At the beginning, I thought I was in this just for that outstanding result but aside from the result being good, I’ve learnt so much more on the journey.

I’ve learnt more about faith in God. I’ve learnt about being a support to others because I’ve realised what having that support from others feel like. I’ve learnt about humility because I was able to come in terms with what pride can do to the confidence of others. I’ve learnt to trust God even when I can’t see the end because life will be boring if we have it all figured out from the start. More importantly, I’ve learnt to be grateful for what I consider less because others have put in more effort than I have with much less result to show for it.

It is amazing how much of God and ourselves we can learn about by not just fixing our eyes on the end result but also embracing and enjoying the process.

2017 looks promising and challenging already, but my heart is assured, knowing that faithful is He who has promised.

Thank you Pero for the opportunity to share this.
